Blood & Valour got off to a flying start at its launch event on yesterday evening (Wednesday 29th March)
Around 25 guests, including local history experts, comic lovers and other interested parties turned out to the hour long event, with most seeming very impressed by the ancient local legend’s modern comic format.
After a brief introduction by, Head of Culture at Eastleigh Borough Council Dr Cheryl Butler, attendees were treated to a gripping ten minute reading of the comic set to dramatic music, brilliantly performed by a member of The Point Youth Theatre
After that, a Q&A with the creative team – Writer Matt Beames and Illustrators Guy Stauber and Marcus Pullen – provided guests with some insight into how the project developed.
BBC South Today were also present at the event, and broadcast a live interview with Fellow of the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Culture at University of Southampton, Dr Lynn Forest-Hill, whose book, Bevis of Hampton, was invaluable in informing the comic.
The BBC had been at Tec Hub prior to the event to film interviews with Marcus, Matt and Guy, which were used in also broadcast as part of the package.
